چکیده

In an earlier report (1) an experiment was described in which a test dose of glycine-N15 was fed to a gouty subject and the abundance of N'5 in uric acid as well as in other urinary constituents was measured for several days. It was found that three times as much of the administered N15 could be recovered in urinary uric acid in the gouty subject as in the two normal subjects studied. The gouty subject used in this initial study had been deliberately selected on the basis of his excessive basal urinary uric acid excretion in order to determine whether increased basal urinary excretion of uric acid, which has been found to occur in about 25 per cent of all gouty subjects studied (2), can properly be ascribed to overproduction of uric acid. In the present report are included similar experiments on three further gouty subjects, one also excreting excessive quantities of uric acid in the urine, the other two excreting amounts within the normal range under the prescribed dietary conditions.

Overproduction of uric acid as the cause of hyperuricemia in primary gout.

Glycine contributes carbon atoms 4 and 5 and nitrogen atom 7 of the purine ring (1-3). Benedict, Yfi, Bien, Gutman and Stetten (4) have described experiments in which the abundance of N15 in uric acid was measured for several days following an oral test dose of glycine-N'5. In two gouty subjects, three times as much of the administered N15 was recovered in urinary uric acid as in normal subject...

Effects of Two Sources of Tannins on Performance, Nitrogen Utilization and Efficiency of Microbial Nitrogen Synthesis in Dairy Goats

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of tannic acid (TA) and pistachio by-product tannin extract (PBE) on N utilization and efficiency of microbial nitrogen synthesis (EMNS) in Saanen dairy goats. The experimental design was a change over design with three treatments and three periods using six mid lactation multiparous dairy goats. Tannic acid solution and PBE were added to fresh ...

Uric acid metabolism in psoriasis.

Hyperuricemia has been noted to occur in approximately 30 to 40 per cent of patients with psoriasis (1-5). The cause of the hyperuricemia and its possible relation to the psoriatic process has received very little attention. Uric acid synthesis has been evaluated in man by determining the turnover of injected isotopically labeled uric acid as well as by the incorporation of isotopically labeled...

Therapeutic Efficacy of Nefrotec Liquid Against Renal or Visceral Gout in Broiler Chickens - A Field Report

INTRODUCTION The incidence of gout in broiler birds has been speculatively blamed on the high protein levels in diets. Gout in birds can be in two forms, visceral gout and articular gout. Visceral gout is the most common form in poultry, wherein the plasma uric acid levels are high and urates are deposited in the visceral organs. Sillers (1959) suggested that this form of gout is the result of ...

Suppression of uric acid synthesis in the gouty human by the use of 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine.

A substantial number of patients with gout has been shown to produce excessive amounts of uric acid (1-4). This overproduction has been demonstrated by the excretion of greater than normal amounts of uric acid in the urine, or an excessive incorporation of isotopically labeled glycine into urinary uric acid. The present day treatment of tophaceous gout consists primarily in the administration o...
